though i have a strong dislike for the university in the town, charlottesville is home to some of my favorite people making some of my favorite music. worn in red is no exception. they create some of the finest passionate, screamy post-hardcore i've heard since the late 90's. they cite sleepytime trio and planes mistaken for stars as influences, and the combination of those two bands would not be a far off description.
hailing from charlottesville, va skyline awake was brad, brendan, jason and jonny. though the band ended in september 2004, they maintained a relentless show schedule throughout their existence, making them one of the hardest working bands in the area. their music is sure to hit home with fans of hot water music or falling forward. members have gone on to play in worn in red and brand new disaster.

paper doll was kaytee, stephen and emilie. they played their last show in early 2005. in addition to the 5 song EP on rosewater, they had many songs written that combined the intensity of sleater-kinney and hole with the melody of velocity girl. |

Straight out of the DC suburbs, bail out! was nick, mike, porter and bryan. they played their last show in may 2006 as porter joined the peace corps and headed to fiji. they wrote fast and short hardcore songs that covered everything from skateboarding zombies to company softball to the shortcomings of the hardcore scene. be sure to check out the complete discography we put out and check the sometimes-still-updated myspace profile at: bail out! on myspace.

Charm City has come to our rescue. the spark was mike, kristin, mike and darick. though they played their last show recently, they were the band you were hoping for when you heard bush was elected. short, fast, angry songs about "our" president, bikes, the war(s), religion, you name it. members are currently in paper dragons and the johns.
sadly races to april has called it quits. robin, schuyler, brandon and nathan mixed personal lyrics with melodic guitars and complex drum patterns. you know, kinda like braid used to do back in the day when they were good, and still a band. you can learn more about them at www.racestoapril.com.
bionic man has been active in the dc/md scene for almost ten years now. despite their longevity, or perhaps because of it, they continue to write and record better and better music. if you're a fan of older melodic rock (think fuel or even hot water music), and don't mind a van halen hot lick thrown in every now and then for good measure, these guys will not disappoint. |
